About the course

An advanced training ⁠​⁠program that equips medical staff to quickly recognise and immediately manage acute cardiac and respiratory emergencies in adults, applying advanced cardiac life support protocols and treating cardiac rhythm disorders to reduce deaths from cardiac arrest.

Who is this course for

The course targets ⁠​⁠all healthcare practitioners who provide direct care in critical situations or take part in resuscitation teams, including:
• Physicians of ⁠​⁠all specialties (especially emergency, intensive care, anesthesia, internal medicine and cardiology), as well as dentists.
• Nursing staff ⁠​⁠(nurses in emergency departments (ER), intensive care units (ICU) and critical-care clinics).
• Paramedics and ⁠​⁠emergency medical services (EMS) teams and respiratory therapists.
• Final-year students of medical and health colleges (such as interns).

What the course covers
• Systematic assessment: ⁠​⁠applying the (ABCDE) approach to rapidly assess and identify acute deterioration in an adult patient.
• Recognising causes ⁠​⁠of cardiac arrest: diagnosing the ten potentially reversible causes known as the (H's & T's).
• Cardiac arrest ⁠​⁠algorithms: mastering the protocols for ventricular fibrillation (VF) and asystole.
• Treating arrhythmias: how to act quickly in bradycardia and tachycardia.
• Post-resuscitation care: ⁠​⁠the medical steps needed to keep vital signs and organ function stable after return of circulation.
• Advanced airway ⁠​⁠management: training on opening the airway with oral and nasal devices and advanced airway adjuncts.
• Emergency electrical ⁠​⁠therapy: mastering defibrillation, cardioversion and transcutaneous pacing.
• Resuscitation pharmacology: ⁠​⁠studying precise doses and indications of life-saving drugs such as epinephrine, amiodarone and atropine.
• Heart attacks ⁠​⁠and stroke: rapid-intervention protocols for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and acute stroke.
• Team dynamics: ⁠​⁠hands-on training in effective communication and assigning the six roles within a high-performance resuscitation team.
💡 Good to know:
• Prerequisite: a ⁠​⁠valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate from the association, and passing the pre-test with at least 80%.
• Certificate validity: ⁠​⁠the certificate is valid for two years from the date of passing.
