About the course

A practical one-day training program (about 6 hours) designed to teach people without a medical background how to recognise medical and environmental emergencies and common injuries, and to intervene immediately to give correct and safe first aid until emergency teams arrive.

Who is this course for

The course targets the general public and employees in different workplaces, including:
• Company and organisation staff: to qualify occupational safety and health officers (such as electricity-company or factory employees).
• The education system: teachers and supervisors in schools and universities.
• Service-sector workers: such as sports coaches, hotel staff, security and safety, and shopping-center staff.
• Community members: mothers, fathers, and anyone who wants to learn how to protect their family in home emergencies.

What the course covers
• General first-aid principles: learning the first safety steps, calm handling of the patient and calling for an ambulance correctly.
• Wounds and severe bleeding: how to control external bleeding with direct pressure and medical dressings.
• Burns and fractures: initial measures to soothe burns and stabilise broken bones and joint injuries until help arrives.
• Head and spinal injuries: careful handling of accident and fall injuries to avoid worsening nerve damage.
• Sudden medical conditions: how to act when someone faints, has seizures, asthma attacks or chest pain.
• Environmental and weather emergencies: first aid for heatstroke, heat exhaustion, bites, stings and poisoning.
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR): hands-on training in chest compressions and rescue breaths for adults, children and infants.
• Automated external defibrillator (AED): how to operate and use an AED safely in public places.
• Choking first aid: applying the “Heimlich maneuver” to dislodge foreign objects from the airway of a choking person or infant.
• Practical application and simulation: practising bandaging and resuscitation skills on advanced training manikins to ensure mastery.
